Power Line Three-Phase Undervoltage Control

undervolt11 Line isolation transformer with undervoltage protection. The isolation transformer (right) provides for flicker interference mitigation for a cluster of services. The recloser (center) monitors the lines back to the substation to ensure that both phase wires feeding the transformer are okay. Undervoltage (brownout) results if just one of those wires breaks and falls down to the ground. The recloser is equipped with a special undervoltage controller that prevents this problem by shutting down the feed to the isolation transformer (all phases) when it detects a problem with the supply conductors. The small transformer in the figure (left) provides power for the recloser during normal operation.
